Signage: No job starts until the artwork is approved
Every job gets one proof page. The customer approves it there, and production is released only once the approval is on record.
What goes wrong
Artwork gets approved by email, by text and over the phone. Someone starts production on a verbal yes, and the wrong spelling, colour or size turns up after it is printed.
Then it is a reprint, and nobody can show exactly what was approved.
What needs to change
No job should start until the artwork is approved, and the approval should be on record: which version, by whom, and when. Every proof should look the same, whichever job it is.
The system
An artwork proof portal. Each job gets a standard proof sheet, with size, colours, wording, material and quantity, on one page. The customer approves or comments there. Production can't release the job until the approved version is on record, and any change after approval asks for approval again.
How it works
Starts when artwork is attached to a job. Ends with an approved proof on record, and the job released to production.
- The proof is prepared. The artwork is attached to the job and a standard proof sheet is made from the job's details.
- The customer gets a link. One link, one page. No email chain.
- Approve or comment. The customer approves, or asks for a change, on the same page.
- The approval is recorded. Which version was approved, by whom, and when.
- Production is released. Only now does the job reach the workshop. If the artwork changes later, approval is needed again.
